Dr. Katherine Pebworth

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) faculty member Dr. Katherine Pebworth has been awarded the 2024 Honor Award from the Tennessee Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (TAHPERD). Pebworth received the honor during the TAHPERD annual convention, held October 27-29 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Pebworth serves as professor of Physical Education and chair of Sports and Exercise Science at LMU.

The TAHPERD Honor Award is given annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to the fields of health, physical education, recreation, and dance in Tennessee. Pebworth’s dedication to promoting active, healthy lifestyles aligns seamlessly with TAHPERD’s mission to foster lifelong physical and mental well-being across the state. Her leadership and commitment have helped advance both LMU’s educational initiatives and the profession at large, making her a standout figure in Tennessee’s health and physical education community.

“We are thrilled to see Dr. Pebworth recognized with TAHPERD’s highest honor,” said Dr. Adam Rollins, dean of the LMU College of Mathematics, Sciences and Health Professions. “Her dedication to improving physical education programs and promoting healthy lifestyles has left a lasting impact on her students, LMU, and the broader Tennessee community. This recognition is well-deserved.”

This year’s TAHPERD convention drew a large number of educators, administrators, and exhibitors who participated in workshops, exhibits, and discussions aimed at advancing health and physical education programs. The exhibit space, energized by interactive exhibits and demonstration areas, allowed sponsors to connect with attendees, while the “passport” system maximized engagement. Pebworth’s recognition was one of the highlights of the convention, underscoring her influential role in shaping health and physical education in Tennessee.

Through its annual awards and programs, TAHPERD aims to set a high standard in health education and physical activity for Tennesseans, fostering community support, professional development, and effective leadership in the fields of health, physical education, recreation, and dance.
